Beginnings
All bigin back in 1899 at 'Fiaschetteria Toscana' on Via Berchet in Milan. The first president was a British expatriate, Alfred Edwards. They won the first title in 1901 against Genoa, one of the leading teams of the championship at that time (the championship was composed of regional leagues and the winner of each league were invited to take place in a playoff, the winners being declared Italian Champions).
Two consecutive titles came in 1906 and 1907, the victims being Juve in 1906 and Torino along with Andrea Doria (this team merged later with another team from Genoa to form Sampdoria Genoa) in 1907
Recent years
In 1980 Milan were involved in the Totonero scandal and were relegated to Serie B as punishment. The scandal was centred on a betting syndicate paying players and officials to fix the outcome of matches. Also one of the best parts of this period was the discovery of the sweeper Franco Baresi.

Milan were allegedly involved in the 2006 Serie A scandal where five teams were accused of fixing matches by selecting favourable referees. Milan were initially punished with a 15 point deduction and banned from the Champions League. An appeal saw their penalty reduced to 8 points and allowed to retain their 2006-07 Champions League participation, where they won the competition. The club have won what is today known as the UEFA Champions League on seven occasions; only Real Madrid have won it more times 9. AC Milan is the second most successful club with 17 league titles; only Juventus have won more 27. The president with the most victories is Silvio Berlusconi who has taken Milan to the pinnacle of the world game since taking control in 1986. A great team needs a great coach and Milan have certainly had their fair share of the richest talent around, Giovanni Trapattoni, Nils Liedholm, Fabio Capello, Arrigo Sacchi, Carlo Ancelotti. Along the way, each and everyone of them also made sure their teams played spectacular football.
